PATRICE BYNUM

Specializing in public relations (PR), event and media planning, Patrice Bynum has combined her love of writing, networking, entertainment, and sports to establish a career that is both exciting and diverse.

A resident of Prince George’s County, Maryland, for most of her life, Patrice started her PR and event-planning career while working with the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). As the Vice President of Public Relations for her university’s chapter, she created and oversaw the implementation of weekly voter registration drives and campus-wide political discussions. While each event was important, her most memorable was a campus-wide premiere of the QD3 movie “Letter to the President”. Co-sponsored by VIBE Magazine, bringing this movie to campus promoted much needed dialogue during the 2004 presidential campaign.

Patrice’s knowledge and expertise in both fields can also be credited to the many internships in which she’s participated. While still in undergrad, Patrice interned at VIBE and SPIN Magazines; Stanton Communications, a corporate media relations company in Washington, DC; and The Endocrine Society, a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the endocrinology field. While at The Endocrine Society, she worked with the Public Relations Manager to secure media coverage and oversaw all pressroom activity during their 2005 annual meeting in San Diego, California.

Following graduation, Patrice moved to New York, NY, and accepted a position as a Research Associate at Ketchum Public Relations, one of the largest PR firms in the world. A bit different from what she’d become accustomed to while working with media, Patrice became an expert on conducting research – a vital part in any PR or event planning effort. She mastered the skill of finding secondary research and learned how to pull from many resources to garner desired results. Her work aided in securing and keeping relationships with many of Ketchum’s largest clients; Darden Restaurants (Red Lobster, Olive Garden, Smoky Bones), Dow Chemical, and Welch’s Grape Juice.

Currently, Patrice works as a Reading/English Language Arts instructor for the Prince George’s County Public School System. She also runs a full-service PR, event planning, marketing, and writing services company called Active Relations Group (ARG). Representing clients in the entertainment and sports arenas, ARG focuses on bringing lesser-known talents to the forefront by strategically placing them in the media’s focal point. ARG is also known for creating and executing stellar events, such as the first annual 5-year reunion for the Oxon Hill High School Class of 2001. This effort set a precedent and has been duplicated at many other high schools in the area. In addition, she works as the PR representative for Collaborative Consulting Group, LLC.

Patrice received her Bachelor of Arts in Communication, with an emphasis in PR, from the University of Maryland at College Park. A devoted member of her church congregation, she also enjoys reading, listening to music and playing board games.
